Jayalalithaa has been the most loved chief minister of the state and is lovingly called Amma by her supporters for her generosity and strong willpower. She was a very successful heroine of south Indian films and has starred in almost 60 films opposite the south Indian superstar M.G.R, who was a mentor and guide to her. When M.G.R started his own political party by the name of All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam(AIADMK), he appointed Jaya as the propaganda secretary of the party.

Jaya has suffered strong opposition from M.G.R's family and other political leaders many times because of her closeness to M.G.R. After the death of M.G.R in 1987, Jaya emerged as the leader of the party after winning by a landslide majority. Jayalalithaa has been the only chief minister in the last 30 years to be re-elected twice for the term.

The sad demise of the most loved leader of Tamil Nadu has resulted in a complete shutdown of the city as supporters throng to bid farewell to their beloved Amma. The mortal remains of Jaya were kept for public homage at Rajaji Hall in Chennai. The last rights shall be performed at 4:30 P.M today next to M.G.R Memorial. Many politicians and heads of States along with Prime Minister Narendra Modi have paid their tributes to the political leader.Thousands line Chennai streets as Jayalalithaa’s final journey begins. RIP Jayalalithaa.
