England or New Zealand - Who Will Win World Cup 2019 final today?

The World Cup will witness a first time winner after 23 years

After an exciting month of plays, World Cup 2019 tournament has reached its final. Of the 10 teams that have competed in the tournament, India, Australia, New Zealand, and England have reached the semifinals by being the top four. The tournament this year followed a Round-Robin and a Knock out format in which each team had to play against the other once and the top four teams will qualify for the semifinals. 

India stood out to be the first earning 15 points with 7 victories and only 1 loss, Australia stood second earning 14 points with 7 victories and 2 losses, England stood third earning 12 points with 6 victories and 3 losses and New Zealand stood fourth earning 11 points (5 victories and 3 losses). Pakistan stood next to New Zealand with the same points but lower run-rate which made New Zealand qualify. Sri Lanka, South Africa, Bangladesh, West Indies, and Afghanistan followed with 8, 7, 7, 5, and 0 points respectively.

The Semifinal-1 was organized between the first and fourth position teams, and Semifinal 2 was between second and third position teams. India and Australia that were in first and second positions played against New Zealand and England respectively in Semifinals 1 and 2. Both India and Australia were defeated by the latter teams and the finals will now be between New Zealand and England.

The final of World Cup 2019 will be historic since both New Zealand and England nations never lifted the World Cup Trophy before in the history. England reached the World Cup finals three times before in 1979, 1987, and 1992 where it was defeated by West Indies, Australia, and Pakistan respectively. New Zealand reached WC finals in 2015 and was defeated by Australia losing its chance to win the trophy.

Both the teams comprise of excellent players who are in their best forms. England has Jason Roy, Jonny Bairstow, Joe Root, Eoin Morgan, Ben Stokes, Jos Buttler, Chris Woakes, Liam Plunkett, Jofra Archer, Adil Rashid, Mark Wood, Moeen Ali, etc. England’s has the best batsmen in the world currently who are performing to the best of their abilities and the bowlers are on par with the batsmen. The team is at its best shape and with their victory over Australia in the Semi-Finals, the team will surely face New Zealand confidently in the finals.

New Zealand comprises of fantastic players like Kane Williamson, Ross Taylor, Martin Guptill, James Neesham, Lockie Ferguson, Trent Boult, Henry Nicholls, Mitchell Santner, etc. The team had won in 5 matches and stumbled along the way a little in the latter half of the leagues. The team is in great shape but failed to perform in some key matches. New Zealand had already lost to England in the Leagues which might make the team plan to perfection and perform with extra caution. While this sounds good in theory, given the past performances of the team, it is not easy to predict the outcome. Sadly, one mistake is all it takes to lose the trophy to a better team.

India vs Pakistan: The Biggest Match of World Cup 2019 is on this Sunday

Be it any big tournament, if there is one battle that the world cricket lovers stand together to enjoy except the playing nations, it is India vs Pakistan match. This is the most awaited battle of World Cup and in 2019 it is on 16^th of June in Emirates Old Trafford, Manchester. 

Cricket matches between India and Pakistan garner a lot of attention in any tournament. Be it the Asia Cup or any other bigger tournament involving these two nations.. Indian team too performed graciously in the two matches it had played against South Africa and Australia. Given the two teams are among the strongest in WC 2019, it is fair to say that India is currently in an intimidating position to the other teams. Though the next match against New Zealand was abandoned due to rain, the team is confident than ever that it can win over Pakistan.

India currently holds 5 points and stands third in the points table. The team comprises of the most talented players like Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, MS Dhoni, KL Rahul, Ravindra Jadeja, Hardik Pandya, Yuzvendra Chahal, Jasprit Bumrah, Dinesh Karthik, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, etc. Since Shikhar Dhawan succumbed to a Thumb injury, it could affect the team, but wonderful players like Dinesh Karthik and Vijay Shankar are present in the team to fill the void. The team’s performance without Shikhar Dhawan could have been seen in the New Zealand match, but as the match was abandoned there is no way to say if his absence has affected the team in any way

It’s been 6 days since the world cup had started, but India hasn’t played a single match yet. All the other teams had played at least a match and some teams have played twice. The first match of Indian team is scheduled to happen on 05th of June in The Rose Bowl, Southampton at 09:30 AM GMT.

Most of the matches since the beginning of the tournament were pretty much one-sided. The very first match between England and South Africa, the second one between West Indies and Pakistan, the third one between New Zealand and Sri Lanka and the fourth match between Australia and Afghanistan were fully one-sided and one could predict the result early in the match.

There have been some thrilling matches like the one between Pakistan and England, in which Pakistan surprisingly beat England and the one like Bangladesh vs South Africa in which Bangladesh beat South Africa. Pakistan’s victory was a surprising one given the team’s performance in the first match was brutal. Pakistan faced a crushing defeat against West Indies. The team lost all its wickets for a total of 105 and West Indies chased that total in just 13.4 overs.

South Africa played its first match against England in which it couldn’t chase the target set by the England team and was all-out for a total of just 207 runs. In its second match against Bangladesh, SA was to chase a bigger target of 330 and it managed to reach 309 runs in the allotted 50 overs. The team comprises of fantastic players like Quinton de Kock, Hashim Amla, Faf Du Plessis, Jean-Paul Duminy, Kagiso Rabada, Lungi Ngidi, Imran Tahir, etc. but failed to perform at its best against both England and Bangladesh, thus faced a crushing defeat against both.

The match against India will be the Proteas’ third match in World Cup 2019 and the team will certainly be looking for revenge for the losses in the first two. While this is India’s first match in the World Cup Leagues, it will be exciting to see the team at work in live.
