India is on a victory roll from the past year. Its streak of victories began from the series against South Africa, wherein it clean swept the tests. Thereafter the team had won the consequent series against Bangladesh and West Indies. The Indian team had been one of the top performers in international cricket recently and is currently the occupant of 1st position in ICC Test Rankings, 2nd place in ICC ODI Rankings, and 5th position in T20I Rankings.

Indian Batsmen Virat Kohli, Cheteshwar Pujara, Ajinkya Rahane are among the top 10 Test Batsmen, Jasprit Bumrah, Ravichandran Ashwin, and Mohammad Shami reside among the Top 10 Test Bowlers and All-rounders Ravindra Jadeja and Ravichandran Ashwin are among the top 10 All-rounders. In the ODIs, Batsmen Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma and Bowler Jasprit Bumrah are among the top 10. India has its hand among the top 10 players in T20s too with Lokesh Rahul occupying the 6th place, and Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli occupying the 9th and 10th places respectively.

While the players and team performances are this way, history says that India has never lost a bilateral since Virat Kohli had made his debut in international cricket in 2008. Since the time, the two teams have played 16 bilateral series in which India has never lost one. Of a total of 59 matches against Sri Lanka and India had won in 44, losing only 10. Indian team is expected to continue its victory streak against Sri Lankan island in the upcoming series which makes it even more interesting.
