For the first time in many years, Chennai Super Kings failed to reach the playoffs along with Kolkata Knight Riders, Kings XI Punjab, and Rajasthan Royals. All the teams performed spectacularly throughout the tournament and provided us with some of the most thrilling matches of the season. From young players to the veterans performing at their best, IPL 2020 showed us T20 cricket never ceases to be entertaining.
The Playoffs are scheduled on the 5th, 6th, and 8th November between the four teams. MI and DC, the top two contestants will play the Qualifier-1 on 5th November and SRH and RCB will play in the Eliminator on 6th November. The losing team of Qualifier-1 will play against the winning team of Eliminator match in the Qualifier-2 to enter into the finals while the winning team of Qualifier-1 directly enters the finals.
While the performance of the teams in the League matches is a considerable factor, Playoffs are a whole different game where anything can happen. Mumbai Indians, as it was established dominated the game in the Leagues and the previous seasons, but will it be able to continue the same performance in the Playoffs is a question for tonight. The team comprises some of the greatest players who are consistently performing well but it had lost its final league match against SRH by 10 wickets.
The same goes for the rest of the teams since these matches are crucial to lift the trophy. While Mumbai Indians have lifted the trophy 4 times in the past, teams like DC and RCB were waiting for a chance to enter the finals for a few years. Delhi Capitals managed to enter the playoffs in 2019 but ended up in the third position. RCB entered the finals in 2016 but lost the trophy to SRH and since then, it had never made it even to the playoffs. SRH was in the finals in 2016 and won, and then again in 2018 but had lost the trophy to Chennai Super Kings.
All of these factors weigh in on the performances of the teams thereby making the playoffs highly unpredictable. The fact that the teams made it to the playoffs is a huge confidence booster and we think the games are going to be more thrilling than ever. Who do you think will enter the finals?
