The frenzy
around superstar Rajinikanth’s Kabali doesn’t seem to die away anytime. Touted
as one of the best works in the recent time by the actor, several screens are
still showing the movie. The film was released in Tamil on 22 July 2016, along
with its dubbed versions in Telugu and Hindi. The movie is now slated to mark
its internet premier on YuppTV, global leader in the OTT segment for
South-Asian content.
Depicting
the action packed gang war between Kabaleeswaran, essayed by the superstar
himself, Rajinikanth and Tony Lee, a role rendered perfectly by Winston Chao,
Kabali is riveting, holding audiences to the edge of their seats. In delivering
the biggest blockbuster in the history of Indian cinema, Thalaivaa has been
well supported by the talented, Radhika Apte. Stepping in the shoes of female
lead with perfect ease, Radhika Apte’s daring portrayal of the wife of the
gangster, delivers some of the highest points in the 2 hours and 35 minutes
long drama. The star of the show, Rajinikanth, is oftentimes his larger than
life self and yet manages to portray the perfect vulnerability and insecurities
of an ageing gangster, trying to protect his family from the clutches of
enemies.
The movie
by the successful Director, Pa Ranjith, has been a runway hit; like it is even
possible to expect anything less from the Rajinikanth, all with his cult
following and the status next to the God of Indian Cinema. However, the success
of Kabali, the gangster drama, has also been groundbreaking in several
respects. Industry experts already anticipated the colossal success of the
movie, following the overwhelming response garnered by the teaser. Unveiled in
the month of Apirl, 2016, the teaser quickly went viral, soliciting more than a
whopping 5 million views in a span of less than 24 hours. In addition to
becoming one of the most viewed teasers of an Indian film, the Kabali teaser
was already flaunting 31 million views by August 28.
The teaser
was welcomed with unparalleled rage amongst the fans. Rajinikanth’s new look,
his quintessential swag, along with the hypnotic composition by Neruppu Da,
everything became vogue. Teaser, however, just another of the many firsts that
the movie enjoys. From Kabali inscribed coins by Muthoot Fin Corp, to special
printed marketing material on Malaysian airline, Air Asia’s planes, the team
behind Kabali left no stone unturned in utilizing the frenzy around
Rajinikanth’s stardom into its stride. That was also the first time a passenger
jet had been draped in the advertisement of an Indian film. To finally welcome
the Superstar’s cinematic outing in 2 years now, various state governments in
South India, worth mentioning, Pondicherry, declared holiday in the state.
The
frenzy, seemingly unstoppable, had fans lineup outside the ticket counters at
the break of the dawn, trying to catch the ‘first day first show.’ What
followed became inscribed permanently in the books of history. Collecting a
glorious 42 crores in the opening day, Kabali observed a bigger opening than
Bahubali, also leaving behind the collections secured by Sultan, starring another
superstar of Indian cinema, Salman Khan. To hardly any surprises, Kabali than
entered the coveted 100 Cr club before the opening week could culminate. Following
the massive appeal of Thalaivaa, the movie became the first one to be released
in the Malaysian language on the first day itself. Furthermore, the overseas
markets, including Malay, further opened floodgates of moolah for Kabali.
Withstanding
the evolving consumption patterns of the present day viewers, the movie is
slated to mark its internet premier at YuppTV on September 23. Offering the
most entertaining South-Asian content to their global audiences, YuppTV shall
be offering the movie on a pay-per-view. Thalaivaa’s fans from across the
globe, apart from India, Malaysia, Singapore and Middle East can access the
internet premier within the comforts of their personal spaces.
